The speeding up keeps speeding up
As of this June 2025, a little more than 900 days have passed since OpenAI publicly released ChatGPT and ushered in the AI-age. In less than three years, AI has seemingly gone through decades of compounding innovation, taking it from exotic curiosity, to interesting idea, to reliable colleague, and also to global civilisational threat.
The goofy, weird images and videos of the first generation of public AI models are long gone. Just compare this famous 2023 video of Will Smith eating spaghetti like his life depended on it (left) with a version made in 2025:
AI-generated media is usually easily identifiable by quirks and oddities (object textures are off, human hands are botched, the perspectives are messed up), but for how long?
New AI models released in June 2025 bring image and video generation to an entire new level. Just look at the examples below:
